BizSpark, Artesian and Racing Cars

Not content with an entry in Wired, @bindik informs me of an excellent ad-hoc bit of sponsorship for BizSpark

You can just make out the logo on the front wing of the above pick. This all came about with a tie up with Artesian Solutions (a BizSparkOne company) who build .NET semantic-web based search technology (recently called out by Gartner in their Cool Vendor quadrant for CRM Sales).

Turns out that Andrew Yates – CEO of Artesian – is also a keen historic sports car racer and couldn’t resist the BizSpark tie-up…

The combination obviously did the trick because the Artesian / Microsoft BizSparkOne car came home first in what was its maiden outing of the season. The race took place on April 10th at the Snetterton Motor Racing circuit in the CSCC Swinging Sixties Race Series. Not without* incident* the black Ford V8 powered quintessentially British 60’s Sunbeam Tiger with the Carroll Shelby twist came home in P1.

Yates and his co-driver Adrian Mossop squeezed over the finishing line ahead of an impressive array of Corvette’s, Camero’s, E Type Jags, Lotus Elans and a wide variety of other immaculately prepared historic racers.

The* incident* in question was the point at which the Sunbeam lost its roof which blew-off half-way down the famous Revett Straight, the fastest part of the circuit where cars including this one, were reaching 140 mph. Fortunately the roof landed close by without major damage or further incident! You can see the start of the race right here.

Microsoft UK BizSpark Summit - September 28th, 2009

by Marc 3. September 2009 15:02

The rather excellent BizSpark programme (talk to @bindik about it) is holding a summit bringing together entrepreneurs and industry specialists for a series of discussions and workshops.

James Caan (you've seen him on the telly on Dragon's Den) will be giving the keynote and the various themes for the rest of the day will be aligned to funding, technology & operations and sales & marketing.

Mainly though it'll be a great day of networking with like-minded people.
