8 Random Things

I don't really buy into these meme things (I'm probably bitter that I never get tagged, and don't have enough friends to forward them to, and besides they remind me of those "your whole family will die if you don't" chain letters) but seeing as it's Eileen then here are 8 random(-ish, because of course they're not actually selected from a pool of facts in an arbitrary manner, but just stuff that comes into my head, which in itself is a projection of intent).

Eileen likes stupid jokes so here is a good one: Why did the pie cross the road? Because it was meat n potato.

1. I used to be Room Service Manager (or In-Room Dining as they called it) at London's exclusive Grosvenor House Hotel. I was told I'd 'made it in management' after one of my waiters scrawled 'Marc Holmes is a ****' on the service elevator wall.
2. My cocktail of choice is the Lychee Martini (I discovered Key Lime Tartinis in San Francisco, but they weren't so good). Or a Bloody Mary if it's before noon.
3. I spent the first 25 years of my life pronouncing the word 'awry' as ow-ree instead of a-wry. (Don't even mention 'calibre').
4. I was going to be a doctor but realised (in the nick of time) that I'm squeamish and a hypochondriac (headache = brain tumour).
5. I once won 50p in a local poetry competion. I was only young.
6. Apart from coding (which is debatable), I'm surprisingly bad at any kind of technology or gadget. Lady H usually stocks up my iPod (sorry Microsoft) which is why I tend to be listening to S Club 7. Good excuse.
7. Lionel Blair once asked me a question and I told him I'd 'give him a clue'.
8. My parents were a bit hippy-ish and were going to name me Ziggy Stardust, but they settled on Marc (after Marc Bolan). They thought they'd call my sister Ruby Tuesday, but settled on Kelly (after no-one). My brother lost out totally and was just called Gary (but it was the 80s). I wonder where I get my completer/finisher attributes from...
