I saw this post on ProgrammableWeb and thought it made some great points in considering the implications of mashups in the enterprise.
I've mentioned before that the implications of 'social platforms' such as Facebook mean that there could be opportunities for a dynamic enterprise to take advantage of the skills that will be inherent in the emerging workforce.
Clearly there are technology hurdles, but there are also business issues to overcome (particularly in terms of compliance and those thorny areas).
In principle though, a new employee could perhaps be presented with all of the gadgets/widgets that are available in the business to do business and they could then construct their own way of working. Moreover, an employee could themselves be a gadget/widget: perhaps the services they offer are defined during the recruitment process and then they are hooked up to the overall enterprise 'hive' for collaboration and exploitation through the business.
This can be seen a little in existing business: self-service resources, portals and so on, but perhaps they don't currently represent a new way of doing business.
So, could my corporation simply be a loose collection of skills (or composites of skills - i.e. a person) that are surfaced in a social platform style and can then self-organise to achieve expected results? Can I achieve agility, efficiency, vision from a crowd of skills?
